With today’s southwest side parking lot murder, is it safe to be around city strip malls?

If you shop at a strip mall in the city of Lansing, do you have to be watchful for shootings in broad daylight?

Check the facts as reported by local news media from today’s murder of a twenty-something young man in the parking lot of Von’s Market at the intersection of Pleasant Grove and Holmes Road. This happened in broad daylight.

Is this a random exception or has it become more common?  Where are the guns coming from that are being used in the commission of these violent acts?   Here’s the reporting by the news media:

      • Lansing State Journal reports that the shots were heard at about 2:54 p.m. in the parking lot where the man was found.
      • WLNS reports one shot being fired at the scene with the murderer still at large.
      • WILX reports the name of the victim and has talked with his mother.
