Is Lansing’s East Side seeing more violent crime?

by Wes Thorp on October 15, 2011

UPDATE: The Lansing State Journal reports the name of the 21-year-old victim.

Check this Lansing State Journal story about yesterday’s shooting and murder at the KFC on East Michigan Avenue and comments about perceived increasing crime on the East Side:

Crime is becoming a fact of life in the neighborhood, Curtis said.”We’re getting kind of used to it,” he said. “We’ve been robbed. Everyone else has been robbed.”It worries you,” he added with a tone of resignation, “but not much we can do about it.”

How about the rest of the city?  Is there a perception that crime is increasing or staying the same?
