Lansing-area’s Rich Bearup and daughter headed to Haiti orphanage

by Wes Thorp on February 26, 2010

Rich Bearup is known for being Michigan’s first children’s ombudsman where he and his staff served as the protectors for hundreds of abused and neglected children.  That’s why his upcoming trip to Haiti to work on a restoring a children’s orphanage is just an extension of everything he has done in the past.

He and his daughter Kate will shortly leave for their third trip to Haiti and the first since the earthquake which wreaked havoc and death on an already poor country.

They will join 15 others on a short-term mission trip to rebuild a block security wall which protects the haven for orphaned kids.  Their duties will be focused on laying blocks and sleeping out of doors until the wall is constructed.  They will have none of comforts of home.

During his trip he and his daughter will try to blog about their experiences through a blog using an iPhone and a the Posterous blog platform.
