Does Lansing still work for you as a place to live? How would you rate it?
That’s a question that the Lansing State Journal reports on this morning about a survey taken by Gallup and sorted through by USA Today. It ranks Lansing high in livability compared to other large and mid-sized cities. The story reports:
A USA Today analysis of the index, based on 353,000 cell phone and landline interviews last year, ranked the Lansing metropolitan area 61st on a list of 162 large and midsize metropolitan areas. The rankings are based on categories such as emotional well-being, physical health, workplace environment and the prevalence of healthy habits in an area.
I’ve lived in Lansing a good chunk of my adult life and I’ve raised my family here. I graduated from MSU. I’ve seen the area at its peak and I am now seeing it really struggle as it transitions from an auto manufacturing based local economy to whatever the future holds. I like living here. But . . .
We are at a point in our lives where we have to lay down the plans for the next chapter. Do we do the Michigan thing that many retirees do? Move to Florida? Stay here and visit Florida for a couple of weeks during the winter?
Will Lansing improve long-term and will Michigan sort its political chaos in the Michigan Legislature? I don’t know. Any thoughts?
