Lansing’s Mayor Virg Bernero is running for governor and there are lots of questions.
As Bernero gets ready to announce his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for governor in Michigan, his city is at a dramatic crossroads and is facing some of

its biggest challenges in its history. The main stays of the local economy, the automobile industry and state government have been in a dramatic free fall which has left local government in severe financial need.
And as it goes further into the new year, it won’t have a leader. It’s left with a divided city council and a long list of challenges that directly affect the quality of living in the State Capital city. The main question: Will and should Bernero resign as mayor as concentrates on running for the state’s top job and for the nomination which will be determined in early August?
Does the city need a full-time mayor? It won’t have one for most of this year.
Is it time to recognize that reality by Bernero resigning and passing on the job to somebody who can do it full time and give the city the attention is deserves?
