This story in the Lansing State Journal today will put some light in what is sure to be a grey day today in mid-Michigan.
He’s a Lansing teacher who’s trying to open a neighborhood resource center on the southeast side of our city to give kids a place to spend time by learning with books, computers under the watchful eye of adults and other helpers.
Brown and his wife used their own money to buy the house on Barnes Avenue, to install a new furnace. He even got approval from the Lansing City Council to have it rezoned to allow for operation of a neighborhood center.
Now the city building inspectors is demanding that he have a handicapped accessible bathroom adding more to the costs.
Here’s a resident who’s making a difference among kids who need the attention. The city has bent over backwards to get new business downtown. Here’s a chance to make a difference in a needy neighborhood.
What can we as city residents do to help Brown and to duplicate his effort in other neighborhoods?
