Check THE LANSING BLOG Twitter lists for "right now" local news

Check the top right of this blog and you’ll see for a few days a copy of Mayor Virg Bernero’s Twitter page. He’s starting to tweet as he gets ready for an expected run for Michigan governor.  It has the potential to be a great way to stay in touch with him, his work as mayor and his activities as a possible candidate.

But, more and more local individuals, businesses, restaurants, public officials and even churches are using Twitter as a means to stay in touch in a right now mode.  As a result, it’s becoming a key way to stay in touch with the latest sales at the mall, to word about school being called off because of weather, to a link about a local news stories of a criminal activity in progress.

That’s why I’ve created tweets lists on the right margin of “The Lansing Blog” Twitter homepage where you can easily access the latest local tweets by category.  Click on one of these lists.  Give it a try.  I will be adding to them as I become aware of locals using Twitter who might have useful information.

If you’re left scratching your head about what Twitter is, simply put, it’s a form of blogging where you can send messages of only 140 characters or less.  It may sound like too little space to send a meaningful message, but it works.  Messages or tweets can be accessed via computer or a text message enabled phone.
