It’s late December and here in Lansing I’ve seen lots of unshoveled sidewalks especially around many businesses.
This morning the Lansing State Journal editorializes that a new snow shoveling ordinance is the answer. It should be based on a past proposal before the Lansing City Council where errant property owners are warned and where the city then shovels the sidewalk and adds the costs to the owners property tax bill.
When the new session of the city council begins next week, efforts will certainly be made to approve it again.
But where do you find a copy? I can’t find it online. Shouldn’t proposed ordinances be on the city’s website?
In my opinion, citizens would be better able to react.
A new snow shoveling ordinance could be a help or it could be one more irritant for those who live and work inside city limits. Presently, the only thing that a citizen can react to are incomplete news stories and word of mouth.
