Our city is struggling to reinvent its economy. In the past, it has relied heavily on the auto industry, state government and nearby Michigan State University. That task has become urgent with the death spiral of the domestic auto industry.
Leading this effort is Mayor Virg Bernero who’s leading the charge in Washington, D.C. for help for General Motors and who’s trying to remake downtown into a destination for jobs and entertainment. This all involves lots of people and keeping them informed.
The difficulty of this effort is compounded by economic difficulties of the local paper, the Lansing State Journal. Keeping local citizens informed and pulling together is challenging to say the least.
Mayor Bernero has started using Twitter to help. His effort has been sparse. Very few updates and very few followers and with those he follows. Does anybody out there in Twitterville and the blogosphere have any suggestions for our mayor and how he can use Twitter to create a community?
