The Lansing State Journal’s columnist John Schneider somedays makes buying this Gannett paper worthwhile. Today’s column about ordering coffee at a drive-thru at McDonalds in Charlotte just south of Michigan’s Capital City make’s the point.
Charlotte is a small bedroom community just south of Lansing where the McDonalds has a strong presence and serves as an easy way to get coffee for the commute to work.
Schneider writes about how he discovered that the woman taking his order in the drive-thru line was actually a person in North Dakota. In a job strapped state, this means that a job once held by a high schooler or senior citizen has now been outsourced to another state. Is that an insult or what?
McDonald’s told Schneider it’s part of a test project in different markets. The company did not disclose the location or the number of stores involved.
Good stuff, John.
