A couple of quick questions:
- Have you ever had trouble finding a parking spot in downtown Lansing?
- Have you ever gotten a ticket at a downtown Lansing parking spot?
I raise these three questions as the city of Lansing appears to be on the cusp of selling its North Capitol Ave. parking ramp to Lansing Community College. The Lansing State Journal writes today about how the city appears ready to sell the 600 space structure for $2.8 million and for a reduced rent to a city agency that has an office in the mall.
The proposed sale was brought up earlier this year and got bogged down because of issues raised by the Lansing City Council.
Before the sale is approved, possibly within the next week, I have questions for everybody who parks or has parked downtown and for city officials:
- Would LCC allow only its students and staff to use the parking ramp?
- How much use does the ramp get now and who uses it, the number of LCC students and staff compared to non-college types?
- How would the city use the money gained from the sale?
Does anybody know the answers?
Are there other questions that need to be asked before the City Council, the LCC Board of Trustees and Mayor Virg Bernero take action?
In its master plan for comprehensive development, how does the city visualize downtown parking?
Do you feel the city of Lansing has enough affordable parking structures?
